The painting by Rene Reza «First date» continues the theme of romantic anticipation, presented in the expressive and recognizable style of the artist. It is a still life in which objects are divided into two sharp, contrasting registers.
The composition is strictly divided into upper and lower halves. The upper part is a background in the form of a chessboard of blue and white fields, formed by a dense, vibrating dotted pattern. Against this background rise three bright scarlet, almost velvety roses. Their color and shape express the classic symbol of love and passion. The leaves and stems are stylized and rendered in white or bluish lines, blending with the background.
The lower part contrasts with the upper: it depicts a table covered with a texture reminiscent of cracked earth or a mosaic of autumn leaves in shades of ochre and burgundy. Here are also placed a vase and two wine glasses, executed in a technique reminiscent of faceting or cubist fragmentation. The glasses seem to be made of shards of ice or glass.
Rene Reza masterfully uses this contrast: scarlet passion and the cold geometry of the tableware, the dynamic background and the static, cracked surface of the table. «First date» is a visualization of the complex, multifaceted experience of a first date.
The painting is made using a unique patented technique called Filumism. The essence of the Filumism technique is that painting is done not with a brush, but with a syringe, squeezing paint through a needle and applying it to the canvas surface as thin colored threads, creating a kind of nonwoven acrylic tapestry. The artist uses traditional canvas and acrylic threads.
