This monumental oil painting is the prologue and origin of the large conceptual project «The House Where Silence Is Heard». It is from this work, inheriting the tectonics of trunks from I. Shishkin and the chiaroscuro vibration of air from I. Korovin, that the entire subsequent watercolor series «Diaries of States» was born.
«Paustovsky’s Path» is a visual exploration of the midday forest heat and absolute tranquility. The rich ultramarine shadows contrast with the sunlit orange-ochre pine trunks, making the air literally vibrate. The viewer’s gaze does not hit a dead end of the forest wall but is invited inward — along the forest path toward a strip of bright sky, promising a safe space and a return to oneself. As Paustovsky himself wrote: «And if I sometimes want to live to a hundred years, it is only because one life is not enough to fully experience all the beauty and healing power of our Russian nature.»
The work has high collectible and investment value as a titled winning canvas.
