This original work «Triptych, Old Moscow» was created by contemporary Russian artist Vyacheslav Gayun and is available for purchase online.
Vyacheslav Gayun’s triptych «Triptych, Old Moscow» is a lush, multilayered, and fairy-tale-like view of Moscow’s historic center, executed in the artist’s recognizable style that combines naive art and decorative panels.
The painting consists of three connected parts that create a panoramic view of the city’s landmarks located across the river. Unlike earlier works, where the background was aged parchment, here the background is a light blue clear sky, which gives the image more airiness.
Gayun depicts the Kremlin and neighboring buildings as a single dense conglomerate of towers, churches, and palaces. The color scheme is warm and rich: shades of terracotta, ochre, white lime, and gold on the domes dominate. The outlines of Saint Basil’s Cathedral with its bright patterned domes can be seen on the right panel. Soviet symbols (the red star on the Spasskaya Tower) are organically integrated into the overall historical mosaic.
At the bottom of the composition, a wide arching bridge runs in earthy green tones over dark water, reflecting green vegetation. Dense stylized fir trees and shrubs, painted with thick green strokes, serve as a kind of «belt» separating the shore from the majestic buildings.
Gayun’s triptych is an idealized, festive image of ancient Moscow, where history, spirituality, and architecture merge into a bright, decorative narrative.
This painting can be hung on the wall in your apartment, house, office, restaurant, or hotel, and it will become a wonderful decoration for your interior.
