This original work «Lead the Israelites to Canaan» was created by the contemporary Austrian artist Walerij Baranow.
On Horeb, a tree burns but does not consume. Light breaks through the clouds from above onto it. Moses approaches to see why the fire does not consume the tree — and is called by name. Here he receives the mission to lead his people out of Egypt to Canaan.
The painting shows the moment before the mission: the fire that leads no one yet and already contains everything that will follow. The trunk is modeled from plaster and protrudes from the panel; the crown is covered with gold leaf, and in the light it appears as if the fire could never go out.
Mixed media on wood — plaster, oil, gold leaf. 52 × 71 cm, 2026.
