Irina Sergeyeva is a mature, multifaceted artist with more than 20 years of experience in artistic practice.
The artist's paintings are distinguished by philosophical depth, multi-layered meanings, and emotional fullness combined with clear external visuals.
A quality education in the humanities (the Philological Faculty of the University and a Specialty in Clinical Psychology), as well as real-life experience, have inevitably influenced the artist's unique perspective in an effort to embrace and comprehend various aspects of the surrounding reality.
A thoughtful viewer will notice references to literary and cultural traditions, mythological archetypes; the paintings are filled with associations and reflections. At the same time, the artist's attitude toward the depicted subject is always clearly felt: kindly ironic, admiring, or meditatively contemplative.
Irrepressible curiosity and passion for life in all its manifestations allow the artist to create without restrictions in genres and themes, yet the artist's creative style has formed and is well recognizable.
Sparkling love of life permeates all the artist's work.
Even simple still lifes appear with monumental corporeality, character, and frankly juicy — a true hymn to life.
Artistic aesthetics and pictorial mastery, as necessary conditions for the precise expression of figurative thought, are no less important to the artist than the semantic content of the work. Therefore, alongside basic art education, Irina Sergeyeva constantly improves her skills, explores new possibilities of expression, and experiments with techniques, tools, and artistic methods.
A musical theme stands apart in the artist's work.
"I am an artist and music lover. Music is an integral part of my life. It shapes my mood, inspires me, and gives delightful visual sequences, as I have the ability to see sound. (I am a synesthete)
I feel a powerful spiritual resonance with the creators of music — composers, performers, and their emotions. I transform the musical flow into pictorial images. Music is invisible, but my works allow you to see the history, energy, and ideas invested in music. Often, a musical composition that excites me becomes the impetus for creation and the direct theme of a work of art.
Therefore, most of my projects are somehow connected with music: “Color Music” was my first solo exhibition, “JAZZ and Other Notes” is an art project that lasted about 10 years and was shown both in art galleries and in the leading jazz clubs of the capital, “Let’s Rock!”, held under the slogan “Painting that sounds loud!” My collaboration with musicians led to the Solo Exhibition “Music. 124x140 mm” at WINZAVOD at the invitation of the BIS ART Gallery (Winzavod, 2020), consisting of art for the covers of music albums and singles.
When creating abstract works, I simply surrender completely to the musical flow and allow it to freely pour onto the canvas.
I always paint to music, and the musical accompaniment always influences the mood and palette of all my works."
Irina Sergeyeva's paintings are in private and corporate collections in Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Great Britain, USA, France, Lithuania, Italy, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, China, and Japan.
