My works are an attempt to create a space for encountering traumatic experience: a memory living in the body and revealing repressed states. Through the figure-doppelgänger, I live through what was forbidden and open a space for the viewer where they can also encounter their own sensations.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Initially, I created large graphic works with sauce, filled with marginal states, tightly packed within a frame so that they felt confined. This density and internal tension led me to the theme of memory and a personal archive: I sought points of contact between foreign and personal histories, transferring them onto canvases by layering figures on top of each other and creating a presence for everything that was compressed and repressed.
Over time, I came to perceive the human as a vessel of memory — bodily, social, personal — and to engage in a dialogue with what resonates inside. This led to a new cycle of works: color appeared, previously absent, corporeality became tangible, and the existential once again took a primary place.
I think through classical painting and traditional materials — canvas, oil, clay, yarn. They become carriers of memory. Through them, I unfold the interweaving of past and present, stored in the body.
In my works, figures overlap each other, creating emotional round dances. But whereas a hundred years ago they served as support for each individual through the collective, mine are closed in on themselves.
I fragment body parts, turning the canvas into a “private object” and capturing ruptures in bodily flows. Sometimes I bind the works, creating a network of tense knots entwining the body. Hands become a concentration of pain and a symbol of the possibility of self-healing.
Clay sculptures form anxious compositions, like ancestors risen from the earth: they continue to be both support and limitation, holding and sustaining simultaneously.
Working with memory, corporeality, and repressed experience, I build a practice within the current of contemporary affective and post-traumatic artistic strategies, where material is important not so much as an image but as a carrier of information or experience.
Despite the variety of approaches and materials, my art retains a personal imprint and remains a safe space where the hidden within comes alive, and the viewer confronts and experiences their own affects.
