Dmitry Syrov: a contemporary Russian artist who seeks the essence between the lines
He was born on January 25, 1970 in the city of Dzerzhinsk in the Gorky region in a military family. Since 1996, Dmitry has devoted himself to painting, becoming a member of the International Art Fund and the Professional Union of Artists of the Moscow branch. Today, he works both in workshops in Rostov-on-Don and in New York, continuing to develop his unique creative language.
The evolution of creativity: from impressionism to abstraction
Over almost three decades of creative activity, Dmitry Syrov has gone from impressionism to abstraction. If at the beginning of his journey he sought inspiration in realistic forms and landscapes, then over time his work became more philosophical and multifaceted. Since 2015, the artist has been actively developing his international career, participating in festivals and holding personal exhibitions. And since 2017, he has completely immersed himself in the world of abstractionism, which, in his words, allows one to convey “the state of the fading or emerging, the unexpressed, the elusive.”
Abstraction as the language of the soul
For Dmitry, abstraction is not just a style, but a way of expressing the essence of phenomena. “Abstraction is the quintessence of a phenomenon. For me, this is the most acceptable way by which I can convey the essence of an idea,” says the artist. He believes that charm is more important than beauty, and the aftertaste carries more than the taste itself. His works are devoid of completeness, they do not describe real images, but set a vector for a dialogue with the viewer. “How can you express the aftertaste of a good wine? What color is Love? What lines and shades can convey the concept of “power”? This can only be done through abstraction, revealing the very essence of the concept,” says Dmitry.
Encaustic and cold wax techniques
Encaustic and cold wax techniques occupy a special place in Dmitry's work. These methods, which originated in Ancient Greece and Egypt, allow him to create works with a unique texture and depth. The artist uses wax and resins, which give the paintings transparency and a slight haze, making the colors play with new shades.
However, these techniques are not widespread in Russia, which forced Dmitry to study them on his own, adopting the experience of foreign colleagues and ordering materials from abroad. He even developed his own analogues, experimenting with compositions and application methods. "I did not choose the technique of cold wax and encaustic by chance. It allows me to express my ideas most deeply and accurately," the artist explains.
Between the lines: dialogue with the viewer
One of the key ideas of Dmitry Syrov's work is the concept of "between the lines." He strives to draw the viewer's attention to hidden meanings that go beyond visual images. His paintings are not monologues, but open dialogues that set the state and structure the space. Often the works are accompanied by text sketches, parables or metaphorical questions that deepen perception and involve the viewer in the process of comprehension.

Dmitry's works have found their place in private collections in Russia, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Germany, as well as in galleries in New York and Lennox (USA).
