I intended this composition to evoke a sense of the universal. I created a dynamic tension between center and edge, dark planes and light planes, inside and out.
I made the bold colors and precise shapes evoke a sense of calm and order, sparking contemplation on symmetry in nature. The composition is symmetrical, with a central focal point created by the star shape. I carefully managed the use of space and balance, emphasizing harmony and order.
The geometric precision implies themes of balance, order and structure. The influence of Modernism is evident in the clean lines and symmetry. In this painting I used straight lines to define sharp, angular forms. These lines create a sense of precision and order. The lack of visible brushstrokes focuses attention on shape and color rather than texture.
I kept the perspective flat, emphasizing the two-dimensionality of the canvas. Depth is suggested through color contrast and the central positioning of the star shape.
I source my inspiration from the heritage of Modernism. I see my mission to extend the one hundred years old Modernist tradition into today’s world. My art is essentially Geometric Abstraction and as such, is kin to Minimalism, Suprematism, and Post-painterly Abstraction.
