The «PROTECTORS» series is a modern artistic interpretation of the ancient tradition of wearing coin jewelry through the lens of the female image, design, fashion, history, and the artist's vision. The tradition of adorning oneself with coins dates back centuries and is found among many peoples worldwide.
Coins were sewn onto clothing and headwear, strung as jingling bracelets and necklaces. Such items had not only decorative value — they served as powerful talismans, protecting the wearer from evil spirits and misfortune, and were also symbols of wealth, social status, and inner strength.
The coins in my paintings are so organically combined with ornamentation, decoration, composition, and the female image that I understood the deep meaning of the series: it lies in the balance of the spiritual and the material. The balance of these aspects gives harmony and beauty, both on the canvas and in real life. If there is an imbalance in one direction, the harmony is lost.
