This original artwork "The Birth of Icarus. Shadow Theatre" was created by the contemporary Russian artist Mikhail Stroev and is available for sale online.
The painting depicts two characters - a young man in armor and a girl in a white dress in the medieval style. They stand opposite each other, lightly touching their palms through a transparent barrier; this gesture symbolizes some invisible border between them. The background is decorated with arches entwined with blooming roses, through which a view of the landscape opens: blue sky, mountains and mysterious blue sculptures resembling wings or figures.
Everyone knows the story of Icarus, and here Icarus' parents are put in the foreground of the picture: Daedalus and the slave Nevkrata, pushing the story of Icarus into the background. Thus, forcing the viewer to learn the story of love and tragedy of this couple in love. Their life is filled with interesting events, bordering on heroism and self-sacrifice. Nevertheless, in the memory of each couple in love there remain wonderful moments of knowing each other, and everything else is just a shadow theater passing by.
