Title of the painting: "Thin Distance"
Year of creation: 2021
Plot of the painting: In the foreground, there is a large cage with bars through which one can easily enter or exit. Inside the cage, a white dog is sleeping; next to the dog is a plate with a heart on it. On top of the cage, a bird is perched. Not far from the cage stands a small man wearing glasses and holding an umbrella shaped like a cane. A shadow extends from the small man, creeping along the red wall of an old building. This building appears torn into two parts — one part is to the right of the center of the painting, the other part is at the left edge of the painting. On the right side of the building, an owl is sitting, watching the creeping shadow. In the background, there is a deserted landscape with mountains in the distance. Behind the cage, two stones cast shadows. Everything in this deserted valley seems frozen. Above, clouds hang gloomily in anticipation of dawn.
The idea of the painting is this — everything has a thin distance — between sleep and reality. The cage symbolizes limitations that, in fact, do not exist. The cage is also the sleeping one’s shell. The bird on top of the cage is the sleeper’s soul; it is always free, and the cage is merely an image without restrictions for it. The sleeping dog in the birdcage represents dormant instincts that can devour the heart with their destructive emotions. The small man is the sleeping mind; he would like to awaken the dog. His shadow is not a shadow at all, but a separate entity. The building torn into two parts is an absurd image expressing that everything is just a frame on film, which does not necessarily have to run linearly.
Perhaps this interpretation of the painting is absurd and nonlinear. It is simply a painting with red walls and a large crooked birdcage.
