Mythological creatures, such as the harpy, are often symbols with layered, historical, and subtle meanings. The harpy, a bird of prey with a woman's head, is often associated with mortality and the fear of it. By extension, one can connect this fear with the fear of the unknown, with the sensation of the unknown being near. Just like the harpy at the edge of a woodland, dominated by ominous-looking trees and a sense of foreboding. The harpy here symbolizes the experience of being on the threshold of the unknown, and the terror we experience when our own small world begins to fall apart.
