Vadim Stolyarov’s painting “Right to Be” is a powerful, disturbing, and yet hopeful work that makes the viewer think about the most important questions of human existence: the right to life, freedom, love, and self-expression. The canvas is divided into two contrasting parts, symbolizing the struggle between good and evil, light and darkness, tolerance and hatred.
To the left of us, an apocalyptic scene unfolds. Flags symbolizing various forms of intolerance are burning in bright flames: a swastika, an LGBT flag, a fast-food symbol. Nearby stands a figure of a soldier, dressed in modern military uniform, with an expression of indifference on his face. He seems to be watching the destruction of other people’s values, showing neither sympathy nor protest. This fragment of the painting symbolizes radical ideologies, extremism, and a blind belief in one’s own righteousness, which lead to violence and destruction.
The painting measures 144x160 cm and can be hung on the wall to decorate the interior of an apartment, house, office, restaurant, or hotel.
