This original work «The illusion of eternity» was created by contemporary Russian artist Leonella Vok and is available for purchase online.
The canvas «The illusion of eternity» is part of the art series «In the Footsteps of Lost Civilizations», dedicated to the search for invisible threads connecting past eras with the present day. The foundation of the artistic expression is the aesthetics of the fragment. This deliberate fragmentariness serves as a key tool, transforming the canvas into a kind of archaeological find. The painting invites the viewer to engage in a silent dialogue with extinct cultures. «The illusion of eternity» is a work that encourages reflection on the transience of everything in our lives.
The composition reveals the inexorability of the passage of time. The viewer’s attention is drawn to a dish of plums. Some fruits—ripe, juicy, with sunlit highlights on their skin—symbolize the fullness of life and the vivid colors of the present. Nearby are fruits transformed by the artist into shadows, ready to vanish into oblivion—a sign of the inevitability of decline and oblivion. The folds of the fabric sometimes reveal and sometimes conceal the image of a chief’s mask and frescoes of dancing Mayan Indians. Running a hand over the canvas, one can feel the scars of time.
In the background is an image of a dance of Indians—a replica of frescoes from one of the nine temples preserved to this day in the city of Bonampak. The inscription on the canvas fades like rays on the ruins of the Palenque temple: «Time flows slowly, but passes quickly».
This work was conceived by the artist as a summing up of life after most of it has already been lived. Looking at the painting, one realizes how fragile what seems immutable really is. Eternity is only an illusion woven from fleeting moments and monuments doomed to become dust.
INVESTMENT APPEAL
The investment potential of the painting «The illusion of eternity» is based on a combination of complementary factors: the conceptual integrity of the series, confirmed by exhibition activity, stable market interest, recorded positive price dynamics of reproduction sales, and documented interest from specialized publications.
The conceptual basis of the painting, founded on the trinity of image, title, and text, is realized within the series «In the Footsteps of Lost Civilizations».
