Painting "Sweets."
Perhaps everyone knows that still life in French, nature morte, means "dead nature" ... However, in this sense, I prefer the translation from English - still-life — motionless, frozen, but, nevertheless, life!
It was interesting for me to work on the painting from a technical point of view – to study the details deeply and subtly, peering into the numerous refractions of light and reflections of objects through the glass, to convey the texture of the clay jug and the glare from the window on it, to carefully draw each candy, which has its own peculiarity in color and shape.
But there was still some dissatisfaction, there was not enough life, dynamics… Then the idea was born to include a bird in the overall composition – a light creature that is constantly in motion. The choice fell on a Blue Jay, which, with its plumage, harmoniously blended into its surroundings in color and gave a seemingly modern still life a touch of antiquity, referring us to memories of paintings by old Dutch masters.…
