The «ОБЕРЕГИ» series is a contemporary artistic interpretation of the ancient tradition of wearing coin jewelry through the lens of the female image, design, fashion, history, and the artist's vision. The tradition of adorning oneself with coins dates back centuries and is found among many peoples worldwide.
Coins were sewn onto clothing and headwear, strung into jingling bracelets and necklaces. Such items had not only decorative value—they acted as powerful talismans, protecting the wearer from evil spirits and misfortune, and were also symbols of wealth, social status, and inner strength.
The coins in my paintings blend so organically with the ornament, decoration, composition, and female image that I realized the deep meaning of the series: it lies in the balance of the spiritual and the material. The balance of these aspects brings harmony and beauty, both on the canvas and in real life. If one side becomes dominant, the balance is disturbed, and harmony disappears.
