This original work «The Last Samurai» was created by contemporary Russian artist Vladimir Cherkasov and is available for purchase online.
It is unclear what this old man is doing — sleeping, meditating, or quietly alert… In front of him is an old photograph of himself in youth, heading to the front; before him lies a headband he kept, with a red sun — the "Divine Wind" (meaning he was either a pilot or a human torpedo). A Japanese incense lamp (a burner with incense) is lit; he is meditating, recalling something. Nearby is a small vessel for vodka-sake.
He holds the katana sword correctly, possibly too beautiful and expensive (judging by the handle, meant for sergeant and officer ranks). Simple katanas called "SHO GUNTO" were specially issued for kamikaze — even with blunt blades… Behind him are inscribed the rules of BUDO — the samurai code of honor. The very idea of "samurai" — the military and spiritual elite of feudal Japan — was deliberately revived for war ideology. Before the war, it was officially banned.
Among the hieroglyphs, there is the sign "banzai" — forward (on the kimono chest on the right) and other specific, not fictional hieroglyphs. A samurai emblem, like a numbered token, was planned to be inserted into the frame… but the frame and token are missing…
