I didn’t know what I was looking for. I was just mixing paints, as if stirring the ashes of a fire that went out thousands of years ago. The red receded into the depths, the black lay like heavy breath, and the gold flashed. Like a spark breaking free from a cracked stone.
The face emerged from the layers, like a reflection in water that someone had just disturbed. The eyes — blue, almost icy — looked to the side. They saw something in that dark and endless space. There was neither fear nor hope in them. Only knowledge. The knowledge that everything we consider earthly is just a shadow of something greater.
The stars call us. I caught myself thinking that we all were once stars. Or will become them afterward. That thin line between falling and rising, between dust and light. Black triangles set the motion in the void. To where time stops flowing and begins to breathe. On the left — what has already been let go. On the right — what is yet unnamed. And between them — a gaze. Motionless. Patient. It does not wait for an answer. It already knows the question was asked long before this painting was born.
Golden rays of the crown cut through the cosmos. Like cracks on an ancient fresco, through which light from another dimension breaks through. I applied them layer by layer, feeling how the air in the studio changed. It became denser. Quieter. As if someone invisible froze by the wall, afraid to disturb the moment when paint turns into memory.
The painting is very textured. Every bump, every scratch, every drip — these are traces of movement that cannot be stopped. I worked with paste, metal, acrylic, but in truth, I was just clearing the way. Removing the excess. Waiting until the space itself would say where there should be silence and where — a flash.
Now it exists separately from me. Sometimes, when the light in the room goes out, the gold begins to breathe. Slowly, like a tide. The painting is finished. It waits for someone to come close enough to hear how the stars whisper in a language we have forgotten to understand but still carry in our blood.
"To the Stars Cassiopeia" is a state in the moment when the earthly “I” dissolves into infinity, leaving behind only a pure gaze and the radiance of the spirit. The painting hovers on the border of two worlds. The next step is no longer forward. But upward.
