Mademoiselle Mushroom does not reveal herself at first glance. This is the first thing I feel standing before this large, almost living canvas. It doesn’t just hang on the wall of my modest studio — it strangely occupies the space, breathes it. One hundred and forty centimeters wide — a whole world ruled by only Her. The name “Mademoiselle Mushroom” hovered in the air even before I heard it, and it is perfect. For she is the mycelium, the intertwining of many entities in one body, in one face. I meet her gaze. Or rather, theirs. Her eyes are two different skies over one city. The left, green, is a dense, gloomy forest full of silence and promises. In its swampy depths hides something ancient, primordial. The right, amber, is the heat of the desert, molten metal in which dreams and prophecies are forged. It burns. And this split gaze does not just look at me — it reads me, piercing through, leaving a feeling of strange transparency. And the lips… Full, vivid, as if sculpted from the very flesh of the world. They do not smile — no. They hold a smile. A barely perceptible movement of the corners, harboring knowledge that does not belong to them alone, but to all of them at once. It is a mockery of our human desire to categorize everything. “You want simplicity? — these lips seem to say. — There is none. There is only complexity, multilayeredness, and mystery.” The final paradox: stepping away from the painting, it comes together into a whole image, and you realize that it was not you who studied her. It was she, with all her multiple presence, who studied your singularity. And her silent question hangs in the air: “Are you sure you are only one?”
