This original work «TUG OF MAN» was created by contemporary Russian artist Oleg Mayorov and is available for purchase online.

The painting by Oleg Mayorov, «TUG OF MAN», is a powerful, multi-figure, and deeply symbolic piece created from fragments of William Blake's works. It is not merely an homage but an independent interpretation of the eternal themes of the struggle for the human soul between heavenly and hellish forces. The painting literally pulses with color and movement, conveying the epic nature of the unfolding drama.

At the center of the composition, piercing the entire vertical plane of the canvas, is the figure of a man who is literally torn between two worlds. His body, devoid of bright colors, symbolizes a pure soul caught at the epicenter of the struggle. The man reaches upward, where a bearded, powerful elder with flowing white hair (a clear image of the Creator God or Anthropos from Blake's mythology) extends a helping hand to him. Beside him hover two light, almost ethereal angels with wings, whose faces express compassion and hope. The upper part of the painting is flooded with golden, divine hues.

However, the lower part is the realm of chaos, fire, and demonic forces. The central figure here is a mighty, horned creature with outstretched wings, reminiscent of Satan or Blake's Urizen in his most formidable incarnation. Its body is composed of intertwined forms, surrounded by a fiery abyss painted in intense reds, burgundy, and black tones. This fire symbolizes hellish torment, passion, and destruction. The man is entangled by dark serpentine shapes pulling him down into the embrace of this demon.

The foreground is populated by writhing, suffering figures resembling sinners or demons from Blake's illustrations for the «Divine Comedy». Among them, one can discern animals resembling lions or predators, and other creatures blending into the blood-red background.

Mayorov uses dense, expressive brushstrokes to convey the rage, suffering, and despair of this struggle. Color plays a key role here: the contrast between the golden light of heaven and the bloody fire of hell emphasizes the polarity of forces.

«TUG OF MAN» is not just a reworking of Blakean imagery but a profound reflection on free will, the eternal choice between light and darkness, and the battle for the human soul that continues through the ages. The painting leaves the viewer with a sense of the monumentality of this conflict and hope for salvation.

This painting can be hung on the wall in your apartment, house, office, restaurant, or hotel, and it will become a beautiful decoration for your interior.
