For many centuries, up until the beginning of the last, the 20th century, the sky over the North American continent was painted with flocks of remarkably bright birds, whose ruby-sapphire-emerald plumage long captivated numerous «aesthetes», «naturalists», «collectors», and simply enthusiasts who liked to shoot at something alive, until the last of them was caught to decorate someone’s dusty, trophy-filled study with its stuffed form...
This bird was called Paloma migratoria — the Passenger Pigeon.
About eighty years after this sad event, I named my multicolored dream of a home by the same name, firstly because a home can travel at the will of its owner, instantly appearing wherever their boundless imagination points, playfully eliminating the sad flaw of any other real estate — its inherent immobility.
The Passenger Pigeon no longer exists, nor does my home. And there is no point in building it, especially after realizing: a person in this world has no reliable dwelling and cannot have one.
Strictly speaking, a person has no dwelling at all, except perhaps the fragile hut of their own imagination, built from their own feelings and thoughts in Absolute Emptiness. In this regard, the encouraging advice of Khalil Gibran seems very fitting: let your home be not an anchor, but a sail.
Thus, the House of the Passenger Pigeon became for me such a sail-dream, the wind in which is my own breath.
