In the foreground dominates an ancient temple complex, executed in the characteristic 17th-century Moscow style. We see a massive red brick building with several onion domes topped with golden crosses. The color of the brick, painted in warm terracotta and ochre tones, seems sun-warmed.
The central element of the composition is the famous gates of the Krutitsy Terem, whose arch cuts through the wall and leads into the inner courtyards. The gates and adjoining structures are rendered with attention to details that emphasize their decorative nature and antiquity.
