The work combines the exoticism and simplified forms of Gauguin's painting with a contemporary abstract-figurative language.
This piece is a free reinterpretation of the post-impressionist tradition. The figure, composed of bright color fragments, resembles a patchwork quilt made from Tahitian fabrics. Yellow, red, turquoise, purple — the colors sound pure and decorative, just like Gauguin's own.
I use the same principle of simplifying form into flat color spots, the same attachment to ornament and patterns. I deliberately do not lighten the center. It’s clear that more air is needed there, but the narrative does not allow for it).
