Alexander Berdyshev

Country: Georgia
1964 Born in Tbilisi, Georgia
1988 Graduated from Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts
1990 Studied at Glasgow School of Art under a post-graduate exchange program
Born in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, Berdysheff's artistic career officially began in Scotland. There, he participated in a post-graduate exchange program at the Glasgow School of Art, also known as the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Building. After several solo and group exhibitions in Scotland, the Edinburgh School of Art hosted his major show during the Edinburgh International Festival in 1997. In 2000, he received the John Murray Thomson Award for his work in the Royal Scottish Academy Annual Exhibition. Since then, he has taken part in numerous exhibitions worldwide. In the United States, his work has been shown in Florida, Arizona, and New York. In 2022, he participated in a group exhibition of six surrealist artists at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art. His recent solo exhibition was held at Avery Gallery, Marietta, GA.
In his paintings, Berdysheff combines figurative, often distorted objects with pure forms and textural elements. They coexist beyond any physical or logical boundaries, revealing the invisible tension and eternal struggle between (or within) all forms of matter. This interplay invites doubt about “the reality of the visible.”
