This is exactly how I want to call the artist Ilya Danshin... So much joy and light in his sunny works, so tenderly and delicately – lovingly executed...
His painting is amazingly musical – such masterful canvases as ''Requiem'', ''Confusion'', ''Traveller'' – the apotheosis of epic, mournful sound; ''Milk'', ''Spill'', ''Spring'', ''Island'' are rather nocturnes and pastorals...
He is a subtle lyricist, a poet in painting, the tonality of his works akin to Satie's music, his ''Gnossiennes''...
And the magic of sounding color – his habitat...
Romanticizing the everyday – the simple rural life in the ''Polenovo-style'' Bekhovo – the artist seems to reach an extreme... The inherently Russian ''structure-misunderstanding'', the shed, becomes the main hero of his recent paintings! He paints it at different times of the day, under changing lighting and perspectives. What value does this little ramshackle hold for the artist? Once, there was a time when he himself lived there – in his humble workshop... And there were born requiems and nocturnes...
How does the master achieve this extremely intense emotionality in the depiction, on the one hand, and softness, tenderness – on the other?
It seems to me – one of the answers lies in the fact that he never uses ready-made bright, pure tones in his palette – paint squeezed directly from the tube in its unchanged form. Like an alchemist, the artist conjures over the ratio of shades in his color mixture, achieving special color relationships unique to him.
And although the poet's lines come to mind: ''Craftsman – I know the craft...'' – he does it rather as a lyricist, guided by his inner sense of beauty... And therefore the main answer is that his painting is a projection of the artist's soul...
The main thing is the mystery of his soul, sounding in unison with Russian nature... It is from its depths that this ''Danshin-like'' spirituality of the landscape comes...
In an amazing way, Danshin managed to combine epic pathos and tenderness in the cycle of new works ''Petersburg''. This is graphics, but so dynamic and vividly figurative that one wants to call it painting in black-and-white sound. Every Russian knows painfully well: the banks of the Neva, the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Hermitage embankment, and the raised bridges – the artist sees them completely anew. The black-and-white palette and the dynamic-sharp manner of painting give the works extraordinary poignancy. Like images from a dream, these nocturnal revelations of the artist resonate...
He is a mystic striving to comprehend the mystery of Being, whether of divine or earthly origin. His works ''I Saw an Angel'' and ''Earth's Attraction'' are nothing but an attempt to grasp the elusive. And it seems to me, the master succeeded fantastically – just look closely at these flowing streams of airy space...
At the border with the unreal is also the artist's new passion for special spiritual video art. His Video Myths – ''Birth of the Day'' – a trembling attempt to capture the elusive – the rustle of leaves in the sunny wind, the flowing movement of air and light reflections...
The artistic exploration of the spiritual Universe continues...
