Ilya Grigorievich Eliner

Ilya Grigorievich Eliner — artist, designer, Doctor of Cultural Studies, associate professor, head of the Department of Information Technologies and Computer Design at the Saint Petersburg State Institute of Culture. Member of the Union of Artists of Russia, the Union of Designers of Russia, and the Union of Writers.

In 1999, he graduated from the Saint Petersburg State Art and Industry Academy with a degree in "Design." With a solid academic background, the artist has always sought to go beyond formal constraints, preserving the freedom of artistic thought and the individuality of his painterly language.

At the center of his artistic interest is painting as a means of conveying a state of being. Urban and natural landscapes, fantasy compositions with figures, still lifes, and floral motifs become a space for working with sensation, light, and inner response. For Ilya Eliner, the atmosphere is more important than the precision of form — silence, the movement of air, memory, and emotional presence.

Saint Petersburg holds a special place in the artist’s work. He portrays this city as a space of dreams and memories — with its embankments, bridges, water reflections, architectural rhythms, and complex northern light. Alongside urban scenes, nature plays a significant role, attracting the artist with its color nuances, form plasticity, and human presence in the landscape.

Color occupies a key place in his painterly thinking. It serves not only as a means of depiction but also as an independent expressive tool conveying mood and the inner dynamics of the painting. His works reflect an orientation toward impression — an instantaneous sensation of environment and light, close to the impressionist logic of perception, yet expressed in an individual authorial manner.

The artist works with acrylic and oil, paying special attention to lively texture, half-tones, soft transitions, and light conditions. His painting appeals primarily to the emotional perception of the viewer — to feeling and inner experience rather than rational analysis.

Alongside active creative work, Ilya Eliner has been teaching artistic and design disciplines for over 30 years, combining practice, theory, and scientific research of the culture of visual imagery.

The artist’s works are held in private collections in Russia, Germany, Israel, and other countries. His exhibition activity covers both Russia and international venues.
