In my youth, I graduated from an Engineering university and had to do a lot of drafting. Starting from the simplest and moving towards the complex, I believed that masterpieces of my technical creativity were born. Even then, an interesting thought took root in my heart: a simple white sheet hides something extraordinary and mysterious – to everyone else it is empty, but to the one who begins to create on it, it is a whole open world of diverse forms. This was how my first desire for creativity was born.
But life brings its adjustments, changing us and the world around us. Traveling extensively across our country and beyond, I became attracted to stones from different places. Thus, the first collections of stones from the places I visited appeared in my home; they varied in shapes, sizes, and composition – but all were unique and very beautiful. Gradually, my friends and acquaintances began sending me stones from different countries and continents. I have stones from Kamchatka, from Elbrus, from America, from Australia, and from European countries. There are stones from the seabed and from mountain peaks. Over time, I began to feel that I wanted to combine in one image the form created by nature with geometric shapes and lines created in my mind. The best place to capture my thought is the canvas. At first glance, stones seem stable and motionless, but this is not true, and there is plenty of evidence for this. In my paintings, I try to show this movement, this intrigue, this dialogue between the different forms of my stone collection.
I was fortunate that in 2020 I began taking painting lessons at the studio of the St. Petersburg artist Marina Venediktova; it was she who helped shape my creativity.
