Malerei "Madonna.2000"

But how nice are the same mischievous boys in the painting Madonna (2000), in which, by the artist’s will, they were transformed into angels. Now they are the keepers of the peace for Mary and the Child. Quivers are thrown away. To perform the song of triumphant love, there are musical instruments in their hands. The painting had been inspired by the joyful and bright event in the artist’s life - the birth of a son. Its autobiographical character is doubtless. The author por-trayed himself as the artist in an overcoat, who is painting winter landscape on the snow-covered plain. In Madonna he repeated motives of his former creations, thereby confirming firmness of his own vision of the world. But the painting marked the beginning of the whole cycle of the re-markable creations devoted to the image of his beautiful wife. The artist’s dreams of an ideal woman were wonderfully embodied in her shape: gentle, smiling and kind.
In this painting he approached especially close to the Renaissance understanding of beauty and harmony. His mutual relations with the classical art, which had begun already in his student’s years, found special meaning in paintings of his ‘mature’ period.
