Her face expresses calm concentration and inner harmony, as if the heroine was instantly transported into the world of what she read.
The background for the portrait is a mystical night landscape: the full moon shines brightly in the sky, shrouded in bizarre clouds, and beneath it the sea rages with shimmering flashes of light on the waves, which adds an atmosphere of dreaminess and magic to the picture. The contrast of the soft cozy details of the foreground and the fantastic, almost surreal night elements in the background creates a sense of transition between reality and the world of imagination - as if reading, the heroine of the painting discovers a whole universe of new possibilities and wonders.
