The work of the artist Anatoly Papanyan has been closely studied at various levels of art criticism, revealing the finest facets and nuances of his art, executed in both graphic and painting techniques. It has been repeatedly noted that Papanyan is a person of extraordinary talent, who senses the world in almost elusive phantom manifestations. It is difficult to draw a clear dividing line in his work between painting and graphics, graphics in purely, strictly graphic execution and in mixed media. In general, the master's subtle, nuanced painting is graphic in nature, while graphics, especially where lavis and mixed media are used, are picturesque. But in Papanyan's work, it is not the technique that is important, but the meaning extracted from it: the results of his works gradually create allusions that refer to the manners of great Europeans of different eras - Rembrandt, Goya, Gerstel, Picasso and many others, vague analogies that can refer even to the very depths of centuries, where human consciousness acted at a deeply unconscious level. There are associations, but they are difficult to grasp and clearly indicate, because they are too ephemeral and too delicately materialized. Papanyan creates in thematic series, which brings the idea to the fullness of expression, but at the same time, all the series smoothly merge into a single whole, which does not allow the artistic organism to be dismembered into details and fragments. The images of paintings and drawings appear in the subtlest extravaganza of spots and lines and disappear with the same ease, creating deep poetic and musical sensations. This is the case of creativity in which the arts are united, syncretic, and yet inseparable, although in fact they are attracted to the point of origin. The basis of this gradually synchronized art is enormous work, an extraordinary mindset, and an abyss of spiritual depth.
